U.S. Air Force Tech. Sergeant

Cody W. Ball

05/15/1991 - 01/29/2023

Our beloved son, TSgt Cody William Ball, was born in Topeka, Kansas on May 15, 1991. He was a wonderful baby and had a childhood full of adventure. He loved playing outside with his friends, his big sister, riding his big wheel, playing with his dog and going fishing. Cody was a typical boy, he liked getting dirty, trucks, legos, airplanes and engines. Cody was always a kind, loving, funny guy, and above all he was a momma’s boy. He was at his mom’s side from the time he was born until he left for boot camp. He loved and adored his mom and she loved and adored
him. Those who knew him rarely saw him without a smile on his face. He didn’t stay mad or hold grudges. He was always laughing and playing practical jokes. He had a great laugh and mischievous smile. When he loved, he loved hard. Cody loved to travel and was always up to seeing new places, he wanted to see the world. Following in his father’s footsteps, he joined the military.

He participated in Army JROTC while he was in high school. He graduated high school from Clear Lake High School on June 6, 2009. He enlisted in the Air Force over the summer and begin his first day of active duty on September 1, 2009. Coincidentally, coincidently was his father’s first day of retirement from active duty. His mom got one back and sent one off on the same day.

He graduated from boot camp on his mom’s birthday and then went on to tech school in Wichita Falls, Texas. Upon completion of tech school, he became an Aerospace Propulsion Specialist. His first duty station was Kadena AB in Okinawa, Japan where he served 4 years advancing to the rank of Sergeant. His next duty station was Seymore Johnson, AB in North Carolina where he served 4 years advancing to the rank of Staff Sergeant. His final duty station was RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom. He was a member of the 492 nd Fighter Generation Squadron “Mad Hatters.” While stationed there he found his stride, he was Airman of the quarter twice, Airman of the Year and Maintainer of the Year. He advanced to Technical Sergeant while he was there. He served on active duty for 13.5 years. The squadron dedicated a special F-15 in his honor. F-15 tail number LN AF98134 will carry his name forever.

His fellow Airman repeatedly said he was the moral of the command and always kept the aircraft flying. He was considered the go to guy when it came to his job, affectionately know as the “Engine God.” He was known as a great leader, mentor and most of all a great friend. We have heard from many that knew him over the years, and they have said he helped them through the darkest of times.

Cody was a great son, father, brother, airman and all-around great man and is missed dearly and never forgotten.
