U.S. Army SPC Joey Martens Lenz

November 16, 1989 - February 1, 2022

 

Joey Martens Lenz, 32, of Conroe, Texas passed away Tuesday, February 1 at Fort Hood (Cavazos) Army Base in Killeen, Texas due to an enlarged heart while sleeping in his barracks. 

 

Joey Martens Lenz was born November 16,1989, in Baytown, Texas to his parents, Margie Martens (Lenz) Taylor and Ted Michael Lenz. Joey was the youngest of their three sons. His brothers are Timothy Scott Lenz, and Cody Michael Lenz. His stepfather, Jeff Taylor, raised him as his son for 22 years. Joey’s great grandfather, Arleigh Everett Sutherland, was a Lt Col in the Army serving in Hollywood making training films since his profession was a film editor, and his grandfather, Clarence Lenz was a dual Bronze Star recipient from his service in World War II.

 

SPC Lenz enlisted in the Army on September 18, 2017, completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina on December 4, 2017, and Advanced Individual Training as a 91D Generator Mechanic at Fort Lee, Virginia on March 7, 2018. He was deployed to the Republic of Korea from October 2019 through February 2021, where he served as a Tactical Power Generator Specialist. As a generator mechanic, he received many accolades including the National Defense Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

 

Specialist Lenz displayed tireless devotion in support of the Echo Forward Support Company, 3rd Brigade Engineer Battalion. His noteworthy performance contributed to the admirable completion of over 5,760 man hours of maintenance to continuously maintain an Operational Readiness rating of over 80%. He contributed significantly to the Battalion by administering over 200 services on power generation equipment and conducting repairs over 110 deadlined pieces of equipment throughout his service to the unit.

Specialist Lenz assisted in scheduled and unscheduled maintenance operations. His ability to adapt demonstrated a pattern of outstanding performance while conducting monthly scheduled services and unscheduled repairs on over 150 pieces of equipment. His effort helped increase the unit's readiness rate to 85%. SPC Lenz ensured that maintenance and services were up to date on all his equipment, which resulted in zero deficiencies. SPC Lenz was a critical asset to Echo Forward Support Company as a power generation mechanic.

Lenz assumed the duties of Senior Power Generation mechanic during the 3BEB Field Training Exercise from 5 FEB 2021 to 17 FEB 2021. His extensive knowledge, experience, and preparation of the Forward Support Company's generators provided the unit with continuous use of all of its available power generation equipment throughout the training event. He successfully diagnosed and repaired all 14 of the company's generators without supervision or assistance.

Through his exceptional meritorious service, Lenz distinguished himself by demonstrating to all that he was a professional Soldier, dedicated to excellence in his field of expertise. His untiring efforts and can-do attitude attest to his achievements and accolades as an outstanding Soldier. SPC Lenz's ability to adapt to his team while providing maintenance support was critical during the rotation in South Korea.

Specialist Joey M. Lenz was awarded an Honorary Award for exceptionally meritorious service while assigned as a Power Generation Mechanic. SPC Lenz’s Service and dedication were an integral part of the unit’s overall success. His outstanding performance is in keeping with the finest traditions of Military Service and reflects distinct credit upon himself, the “Regulator” Company, the “Beaver’ Battalion, the “Greywolf'' Brigade, the 1st Calvary Division, and the United States Army. 3-19-21.

Lenz was an enthusiastic, caring, and kind young man known for his deep passion for all animals, especially cats and dogs. His humor was contagious, and he never met a stranger. He loved his family with his entire being and was devoted to his mom. He will always be her Mama’s Boy. SPC Lenz is buried at Forest Park in The Woodlands 18000 Interstate 45 S. and visitors are encouraged to visit his gravesite.

Short Story: 

Brandon was serving in South Korea where his fellow soldiers said he had a “tremendously big heart” and all of us in his family are so proud of his kindness to all and bravery during his service time. We love and miss him so much and are so happy to be able to honor him through your service to your community.

Short Story:

He was an infantry soldier stationed at Fort Stewart and killed by a drunk driver.

He was deployed to South Korea soon after graduation and received his Arcom while training in California. He was always up for a challenge and never met a stranger. He was the baby of the family but we all looked up to him. He was beautiful inside and out just like your brother. He also has a sister he was especially close to and two brothers. He also has a son.

Name of Fallen Hero:  Corporal Nathaniel "Nate" Farsdale

Date of Birth:  04/09/2002

Date of Passing:  06/14/2023

Short Story:

Nathaniel was stationed at Cherry Point North Carolina with Mals-14. Nathaniel was a Corporal at the time of his death.
